Beauty Buzz: New Year// New You?

7eb9607d05a0c5e70dda98aa1f17ee78I always think of the New Year as a way to make a fresh start in the various parts of my life – be nicer, be more grateful, run more, eat healthier, read more, work harder the list goes on and on… It can be daunting.

The same goes with beauty. I took a good hard look at myself in the mirror on January 1st and thought “what can I do better – what are my beauty resolutions?” And what was an innocent question to myself quickly became a feed of negative energy where I harbored on all my flaws…

Wrinkles on my forehead and neck – check

Dark circles – check

Dry skin – check

Rosecea – check

Split ends – check

Gray hair starting to sprout – check

and the list goes on and on…

Maybe if I had an unlimited credit and some free time, I could “fix” these things. But then again, maybe not. Maybe some of this stuff is just me and I really need to get over it and not be so hard on myself.

In the past few weeks, I’ve worked really hard to just kind of accept that I’m aging and ‘deal’ with it. Instead of buying the most expensive creams and researching local botox facilities, I bought a few inexpensive products from the local Sprouts market (which was having a huge sale on their organic skincare and haircare stuff). I  moisturized more with my joe schmo drugstore creams, I made sure to take off all my makeup every night and even went a couple of days without wearing makeup to let my skin breath and just be ok with how I look without make up. I’ve been drinking more water, making time to run (I’ve learned that putting on my sports bra is half the battle) and I even gave myself a little hair trim after watching some Youtube videos. Pretty easy, simple and inexpensive.

We all tend to have these grand plans for the New Year, but sometimes it just sets us up for failure. Therefore, my beauty New Year’s resolution is to be nicer to myself. I  think that sounds reasonable. I’ll continue to try to drink more water and run more and to make sure I take off all my makeup before bed, but you know what, I know that won’t always happen. I know I’ll still see some more grey hairs and perhaps some more wrinkles – that’s just life. I’ll just do the best I can and remind myself that I’m not perfect or a model or Kim Kardashian (I know you are completely shocked)….

So be nicer to yourself this year  –  perfection is overrated. And when in doubt, just smile – it’s your best accessory and it will always make you look beautiful!

Here is my little, easy, simple and inexpensive beauty routine for the past month:

Cetaphil Cleanser/Olay Cleansing Brush

Jergens Crema Deep Conditioning Shea Butter Body Cream with Oatmeal – obsessed with this! It feels like a super expensive cream and it smells SO good!

Earth Science Deep Conditioning Hair Masque – it has Olive and Avocado in it and leaves my hair so silky and smooth!

Desert Essence Gentle Nourishing Eye Cream – I can’t tell if it’s doing anything yet, but it feels so nice and refreshing

RoC Retinol Correxion Sensitive Night Cream (on sale here)

Prosacea Rosacea Treatment Gel – I can’t tell if this is helping yet… if anyone has any other suggestions, I’d love to know!

Thank you so much for reading and following along! Happy Friday and have a wonderful weekend!

  1. we all need to be nicer to each other, so this is a fantastic resolution abby. we are all too hard on ourselves, especially when others usually see us in a much better light than we see ourselves! thanks again for guest posting for me while i was under the weather – i really appreciate it! i’ll be in touch soon about my san diego visit xoxo

    • I’m so glad you liked this post!! I hope you are starting to feel much better – can’t wait to meet up in San Diego 🙂 x

  2. I agree completely Abby it’s so much healthier to just strive to be a better US rather than better than others. We are who we are and the faster we embrace it, the happier and healthier we will be! Have a wonderful week Abby xo
