I once worked for a women who told me I should never wear red – especially near my face – it just didn’t suit me. I’ve always loved the color red and I’m not exactly sure why – but it’s bold and beautiful and I wasn’t going to let some snooty women tell me I shouldn’t wear it. I walked into the shop the next day wearing my red pea coat (which I still own but never get to wear) to which she said actually it doesn’t look that bad…

From coats to lipsticks to wine, I love a good red – and the woman I worked for wasn’t completely wrong… Red is harder for me to wear because of the pinkness in my face but when the makeup is done right, a statement red lip is one of my favorites – especially in the winter. Over the years I’ve accumulated quite a few red lipsticks in my makeup stash and today I’m sharing them with you. I’m writing this with Valentine’s in mind and yet I’m thinking to myself that I’d never really wear red lipstick on a date with Chris. For me red lipstick is more for fun parties, events and nights out with the girls. Enough rambling…

  1. Revlon Certainly Red -This creamy red lipstick has slight blue-red undertones which make your teeth look whiter! This was one of my first red lipsticks and still one of my favorites.
  2. Revlon Really Red – This is similar to Certainly Red but it has a matte finish and has a little bit more of a brick red hue to it!
  3. Revlon Fire and Ice – A  creamy bright orangy-red color thats similar to the ultra popular Nars Heatwave.
  4. L’Oreal Blake’s Red – I love this classic red color from L’Oreal. It works on every skin tone.
  5. MAC Ruby Woo – If you want to go really bold with your red lips, Ruby Woo is the lipstick to do it with. While it takes longer to apply, when done correctly its a matt blue-red color that lasts on your lips forever.
  6. NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Monte Carlo – This creamy formula is a mix between a lipstick and a gloss. While it is a matte, its not super drying and the color is a deeper burgundy red.
  7. Revlon ColorStay Moisture Stain in Shanghai Sizzle – This formula is a combination of a lipstick, stain and gloss. The color is a bright red with orange undertones.
  8. Beautycounter Lip Sheer in Scarlett – A sheerer lip stick that’s buildable. It has a pretty coral-red to it.
  9. E.L.F Matte Lip Color in Rich Red – My latest favorite kind of lip colors are these lip crayons because they are so easy to apply. I love this classic red color from e.l.f. (so affordable). It is matte so it can be a little drying so prep your lips first.
  10. Lancôme Color Design Matte Lip Crayon in 100 – A more expensive version on the E.L.F. lip crayon, this bright red color goes on matte but is less drying and longer lasting.

What’s you favorite red lipstick?
